I had never considered visiting Thailand in my immediate future before I met Sophie, but the passion she expressed about her desire to travel there again after her first trip with her friend Matea inspired me to want to go there too. We had talked about going together ever since we met in 2012, and so finally after falling in love and getting married we finally made plans to actually do it as our second honemoon (our first honeymoon was in Cancun and, although amazing and fun, left us feeling unsatisfied).
I am writing this on May 2nd, 2017 so my memory of our trip, which took place in October/November 2014, has unfortunately faded somewhat. I am hoping, as I write, more and more memories will come flooding back to fill the blank space before me.
We flew to Bangkok from London and upon stepping out of the airport I remember the heat and humidity that engulfed me. In a lot of the photos we took of our time Bangkok I noticed that I look as though I am sweating, and that is because of the constant humidity that was present at the time. As soon as we left the airport we jumped in a taxi and headed to our hotel. Our driver was very friendly and talkative. I noticed some interesting ornaments littered around the entire interior of our vehicle and asked what they were. I was told they represented fertility, which makes perfect sense…
We only spent a few days in Bangkok because after visiting many a travel forum and reading various travel guides we thought with only a month in Thailand it was an appropriate amount of time. We went a bit upscale here and stayed at an Anantara Resort, which was beautiful and served as a great place to relax and feel on vacation for our first few days in Thailand. Even though for Thailand standards it is exorbitant, at less than $200 USD per night for a 5-star resort located right on the Chao Phrya River, I was more than happy with the value for money.
My lovely wife arranged for us to take a boat cruise on the Chao Phrya river through Anantara, which conveniently had a boat dock on property.
